If only, you could be shown the best 12 year-olds’ essays in the country, you would think that adults wrote it. The bold and beautiful phrases used and the depth and breadth of the characters and events that unfolded in their stories, all blended in seamlessly to create a powerful read. You would be glued to your seat, reading the essays without batting an eyelid, gripped from start to finish. They are that phenomenal.
There’s a group of children who have come a long way in their writing. They write better essays than we did at their age. Let us show you 2 essays – A and B. Both are written by 12 year olds. Can you see the difference?

It was a bright and sunny day. We all decided to go to the zoo.
Do you know how Essay A can be achieved? Your child needs to start reading at an early age and read beyond his age group. For example if he is 10, he should be encouraged to read 11 year old books. Or if he is 12, he should be encouraged to read 14 year old books. In this way, he will always be ahead of the pack when it comes to writing. He will always be exposed to a higher level language, every time he reads. This will influence his writing significantly.
